I've got quite a few white scratches on the blue part of my hull.
Some are tiny (you can't feel anything with your finger), but I got a bigger one this weekend (even though it's not deep it feels of bit rough, becomes blue when wet and white when dry).
Any hint and tips for touching them up? Can I rub them off or do I need to apply blue gel coat or paint?
Hi Pascal, With light scratches you can use some T-cut and polish them out. Deeper scratches you may need to buy some blue gelcoat or try a blue wax/polish hope this helps regards, Paul.
There was a small article in the Club Laser magazine a few editions ago about repairing minor scratches, trying giving Laser a ring to get an old copy. I will also see if I can track it down. Might be a good article for this web site
The smallest scratches can be polished out. Do it slowly and a little at a time. If the scratch feels rough then it has probably damaged the gelcoat. This is not serious if it is a light scratch but if it is deep I tend to stick a piece of tape over it until I can repair it. I only repair the deeper scratches once or twice a year. For this you will need to buy some Gelcoat from Laser. Preparation and slow sanding/polishing is the key.
I repaired some last year (my first time) and the repair is invisible. It does mean your boat will be out of action for 24 hours or more depending on the air temperature.
