Hi,

My mainsheet gets regularly tangled after gybing. Thinking it might have been a bit worn I've just replaced it with a brand new one hoping it would get better and it's actually got worse! The new sheet is a lot more supple than the old one.

Has anybody found a clever way to fix this problem? I'm thinking of lashing the bases of the two blocks on the hoop together to stop them from falling apart.

Regards,
Pascal

Do the two blocks on the hoop have springs under them, I used to have this problem until I learned that Laser were fitting springs to keep them upright. I had some fitted which solved the problem.

I have never had this problem so the only thing I can think of is the way that the main sheet is rigged. Have a look at my rigging pictures elsewhere on this site. If yours looks like mine then I am at a loss for ideas.

Hi Alister,

Actually I can see a difference. On my Stratos the block to which the end of the sheet is attached is actually forward, whereas on yours it's aft. As a result, on mine the other end of the mainsheet comes aft of the hoop and not through it, where on your it comes forward and through it. This is probably clear as mud so I'll send you a picture when I get a chance. I can't swap the blocks because of the way they're attached to the hoop.

However the springs on my blocks have gone, and as Dave suggested this has probably much to do with the problem. I'm going to fit new ones to start with and see how it goes.

Regards,
Pascal

Hi Pascal,
If the blocks are the wrong way round on your hoop then the hoop has been fitted back to front you will need to undo the bolts inside the centre console and reverse the hoop it is an easy job, and should not take more than 10 mins providing you have the tools.
