Hi everyone, I have been in touch with the RYA and they do not know if the yard stick has taken into account the use of trapeze. They assume that this is for use with the base rig. They do not have enough info to differentiate between the keel and the centre board version so the yard stick stands for both until they can gather more info from clubs.
I'm not sure how many returns the rya had, 1081 is the number submitted by my club's sailing secretary based on my years racing mainly against ISO's and RS400's. I do not use a trapeze but normally have two light-ish sons on board. A heavier crew on a trapeze would make a significant difference upwind.
I agree Doug, I do use a trapeeze and have regularly raced (not sure if any returns have been made) - I can quite easily race level if not faster than laser II's (1030) but also pretty equal to a Phantom (1050). I now ask to race off 1060 otherwise people complain about being a bandit etc etc.
