The class rules currently state that the trapeze should not be used when racing. I assume the rules were drafted by Laser but I think now need to be ratified one way or another by the class members. This will have an impact on the PY and also ensure clarity when racing amongst ourselves. Thoughts anyone?

Within the class I am not bothered. However, in the handicap racing I want to use it as it adds another dimension to the sailing and makes the boat very stiff and capable of pointing higher on the upwind legs. |

Doug, If it means I might beat you then I'm all for it. Jokes aside I would very much like to see the the trapeze as included within the class rules. However, my guess is that only 50% of boats have it fitted. Perhaps because their owners deliberatley wanted to stay away from boats that required trapeze skills. |

I can understand why Laser wrote this rule... to try and broaden the appeal of the Stratos as a "family" and not "racing" boat, but as more are sold they will inevitably be raced. We race ours with a trapeze, both at club level and in regattas, although I'm currently the only one racing one in Scotland.. as far as I know! The trapeze certainly livens up the boat.. It points better.. and the crews' knees suffer less! In Scotland, class racing for the Stratos is just not going to happen, so it's not an issue, but if I ever venture south to compete in a Nationals, for example, I would not be happy to have to give up the use of the trapeze having spent all this time training my missus to trapeze!!Why not have two classes.. trapeze and non-trapeze if some people are not interested in wiring.. the playing field remains level and the appeal of the boat remains broad.. Simple.!
