We have just acquired a Stratos Keel (257) and one of our ambitions is to use it for cruising either inland, well laiden with kids, or two up in the seas around North Wales.
The standard storage space is a bit limited and I wondered whether anyone had any recommendations on additional storage (for picnics, sea safety equip etc.) along with advice on locating and securing it.
I am also after recommendations for a steering compass and where best to locate it.
Regards Andy

With three crew on the Hurst to Newtown race all bringing wet weather gear, drinks and food, we found a good solution by accident. We use the dry bags supplied by Yachtmail,"Sac Etanche" in small or medium size. These seal by rolling the neck up and clipping the neck together. We found clipping them onto the s/steel mainsheet support, they sat on the centre seat no bother at all, nicely out of the way, and secure to the boat. Perhaps rather than a compass you might buy a Garmin GPS for not much more, and you will have compass heading, speed, track to waypoints and return track. Anyway, good sailing, Brian Pearson

Thanks Brian. I will have a look into the bags you suggested.
I think you are right about the compass. Having got the boat rigged (well nearly!) this weekend there does not seem to be a place which is both out of the way and in a good line of sight. We have 2 GPS's between us so it looks the best route. Hopefully, Garmin make a handlebar fitting which will work on the hoop.
Regards Andy

I use a soft rectangular sports bag ( roughly 50cm x 25 x 25 ) and put it to the port side of the spinnaker sock, clipped to the rear handle of the standard storage bag to stop me losing it ! It never fouls the pole etc.
