Alistair, I have a small collapsable dinghy, grapnel anchor that I use, it must be about 3kg, or so. I can't say exactly as I am overseas at the moment. It has been more than suffice for lunch stops if you want to keep the boat off the beach. I think it is important to get a few metres of chain as well - about 4m-5m. This gives the correct horizontal pull on the seabed, obviously the more the better but is more weight. Then some polypropelene or nylon rope. I wouldn't leave the boat unattended because of the way it sheers around in the wind and can drag the anchor (bigger anchor then ??). When I do leave it I have tested it with board up & down and rudder up or down but no ideal conclusion. Likewise mainsail up or down, Somtimes up with lots of kicker and flattner and it stays heading into the wind - but no mainsheet in case it drives off!! Do you have a chandlers to talk to - it doesn't require very much weight for what I am talking about - I used the same chain to secure the trolley in the dinghy park. |
