Sure, They are great boats arn't they? When we bought the boat we were under the impression that they were a little quicker than they seem to be. We race ours and are convinced that the Portsmouth number is far too high for it at the moment. However, with our light weights the Stratos can be a bit of a pain to handle in the stronger stuff when racing. We've decided to buy a boat specifically designed for one purpose rather than try to race a family dinghy. I think what Laser has tried to do has to be applauded and truly fits the design spec. I guess we are selling it because we don't fit the spec. |

I understand your feelings.
I have been tempted by an RS400 - just because of the level racing, but I don't think I would take beginner friends out quite so often. The Stratos is a good compromise. I haven't found something that would replace it - was wondering what the SB3 would be like especially if it had reefable main and roller head sail. Good Luck. |

Yeah! seems like a good boat. I'm looking at a couple of options at the moment and becomming more convinced that the Topper Buzz is going to be my thing; lots of thrills and spills in a fairly stable boat. Well I'll know more when I test sail it. If not, then RS200 looks like it would be worth a test sail. However you are right, the Stratos is an excellent compromise. Cheers. |

I've sailed the SB3... it's awesome!! nearly 20 knots with the kite up... yee haaarr. Yet for such a speed machine it's very well mannered. If you screw up.. it won't kill you. Broaching with the kite produces a rounding to windward.. stall out and stop.. just bear off after dumping kicker and get going.. Might just be my next boat!!
Having said that, I crew on Slippi Jin.. A Beneteau 35s5.. heating.. shower.. hot water...
Interesting wee point about the SB3 is that the lead bulb weighs about as much as the RS K6 all up...
