I have the centreboard version of the stratos and it occurs to me that a topping lift would be a good addition to the standard inventory. We have had acouple o experiences when we wanted to manouvre the boat under power with no sail but when the main is down it fills the boat and makes it awkward for crew etc. Any suggestions ???
I have thought about this as well. I haven't tried it, but would then main halyard work, if you attached it to the end of the boom? I was also thinking about buying some elastic ties to then keep the main sail on the boom and out of the boat. I will try the main on the boom the next time I am out. Alastair
I regularly use the main halyard (as a topping lift ( stopper knot in outhaul slot )and elastic for sail around boom. However, when you stop using the halyard as a topping lift DO NOT LET GO OF IT before knotting it to the main sail !
If you do lose it, use the motor to bring the boat into the wind and catch it as it passes you !
Jim is right. I use the same method and it is the only practical way. Ther main halyard is fine. I sometimes leave the main halyard attached to the to the main and pull the main sheet all in the way in. This keeps the boom on top of the centre hoop but don't forget to release the main sheet when hoisting the sail.
