I have just bought a stratos. Can anyone recommend a suitable outboard (size & make) for the Stratos?

hi, there was some info earlier on in the web site. I can't get it to load up.
I have bought a Honda, 2hp for £349. It is a four stroke, so uses unleaded petrol with no oil mixing. It is a short shaft and works quite well, although it tends to come out of the water if I am at the bow. It is light at 13kg and seems to have enough power. If you need any more info, email me. yours, Alastair |

Hi Alastair,
Is the Honda powerful enough for the Stratos? Do you have the centerboard or keel version?
Also do you find the noise level of the Honda bearable?
Regards, Pascal

Hi Pascal,
I have a centreboard version and I think that it is powerful enough, and seems to push us on at fair speed, although I am using it on inland lochs. I don't think it gets the boat any faster at full revs that at 3/4 qtrs.
It is not too noisy, having used a Seagull before on other boats!
THe Honda also comes with a safety cord and has a twist throttle, which were missing on other more expensive engines. I also like the idea of not mixing fuels and using a "cleaner" engine on what is in effect a reservoir. yours Alastair |

hi all we've got a yamaha malta 3.3hp two stroke. We went for the higher hp because we wanted the extra power for motoring against strong tidal flows - I think on inland waters you're unlikely to need that much. But on the subject of outboards - what do others do to protect the outboard in case of capsize - so far we've just kept our fingers crossed! |

I attach my outboard to the hull with a short piece of cord. The attachment point is one of two U bolts I've fitted. Both are 15 cm from the bow end of the gunwales. I use the U bolts ( bottom of the U at the top ) to tie onto my pontoon.
