We torn the top of our gennaker on the loop that attaches to the head of the forestay so that the jib can be furled. (I'm referring to the piece that comes from the top of the jib furling mechanism and loops around the forestay at the head of the jib.)
Is there a way to protect the gennaker from getting caught in this loop so that we don't tear the gennaker. We typically unfurl the jib, unhook the head of the jib from the forestay, and lay the jib in the foredeck area when done sailing for the day. So taping the loop each time we use the boat doesn't seem like a good option.

The forstay gets in the way when gybing - so I remoove it - ONLY after the jib is up - and take it back to the mast. That way it is further back and less chance of it happeneing. Although I had the same problem once.
