Hi,
I'm planning to spend a week around Poole Harbour at Easter. Has anybody got any tips on where to launch in the harbour, with the ability to leave the trailer behind?
Any info on cottages to rent would be welcome as well.
Regards, Pascal

Pascal,
There is a popular slipway in Poole Harbour at Baiter Public Car Park. I haven't used it myself but have seen many dinghies use it. Go to boatlaunch.co.uk for more details.
I have copied some of the info from the website below;
Hope this helps,
Paul

Directions to ramp Slipway is in the large Car Park near Baiter Park on the Poole water front. Facilities Large tarmac car park with area for trailers. About the ramp Large wide ramp. Very shallow entry angle, which makes it easy to launch and recover. This is a very popular launching site, which in high season can become very busy. Cruising area Poole Harbour Charges: £7.50 per day (£5.50 after 2:30pm) including car and trailer parking. Payment at machine accepting coins only. Useful website www.phc.co.uk

Hi Pascal, You will enjoy Poole Harbour. My folks live in Parkstone and we may be able to come and sail with you for a day if you like. My boat is kept at Sutton Bingham but I can bring it down to Poole in about an hour and a half so its a practical run. The public slip is very good with easy slope in but it may also be worth trying the people at Cobbs Quay such as Davis's 01202 674349 or Salterns at Turks Lane Lilliput or Mitchell's at the same place 01202 747857 They all have slips and facilities but you may be able to leave the boat alongside for the week and park your trailer ashore in their compounds. This may cost more than the public slip but would give you more time afloat and less hassle each day. Just a suggestion for your consideration.
By the way is it all right if I steal a few bits of text etc off the website for this leaflet to go out with new boats?

Thanks Mark. I will definitely give you a shout. I have to find a cottage first and that will determine my dates. I'll let you know when I'm sorted out. If others want to join they are more than welcome.
Leaving the boat at a friendly local sailing club is definitely my preferred option, as could do without putting the mast up and down everyday for a week!

How many beds do you need? Poole is a busy place and cottages are fairly sought after for residential occupation. I know the owner of Dorset Lettings. I'll give her your email if she knows of any holiday lets in the area. Rockley sands caravan park has chalets and its own boat park & slip. Its a superb spot for sailing from but you have to put up with it being a caravan site with burger bars and "entertainment" of a family nature i.e. large fluffy bunnies and bad singers! Easter may be better. cheers |
