Hi,

I've read previously that a number of you have fitter an auto-release Clamcleat CL257 on the tiller down-haul. I've bought one but noticed when I tried to fit it that the other end of the down-haul is attached to the original cleat (because of the purchase). There's nowhere to attach the down-haul end on then for quiet motoring?
b) Or would it be better to keep the weight down and go for si

I fitted my auto release cam cleat very soon after I bought the boat and before Class Rules were published. With this in mind I fitted it slightly ahead of the original, leaving the original in place, so that if a problem arose with Class rules I could either tape it up or remove it for Class racing...so the original is still there with the end of the down-haul still tethered to it! Actually in the meantime I've drilled a key hole in the underside of the tiller tube to catch the end of the down-haul. It's very neat and effective. I've replaced the original cleat further aft and I'm using it for the up-haul. However I'm not 100% sure that my arrangement complies with the class rules. I'll have to check with a measurer from my club when I decide to go into racing.

For peace of mind I think I would recommend your solution.

Regards,
Pascal
