Whilst not yet an owner of a Stratos. I am seriously considering purchasing a boat. I notice from the class rules that whilst the boat may be fitted (and MOST seem to be) with a trapeze. They are not allowed in class racing. As the boat is such a perfect Parent/Child club racer I wondered if some formula couldn't be adopted to at least allow lighter children/small adults to use the trapeze to gain a reasonable advantage against heavyweight crews. Also in heavy weather I imagine that trapezing would make for more exciting racing among the adults. Perhaps a handicap imposition could be established for crews who choose to trapeze? It seems a shame to have a boat which is such a perfect stable trainer for trapezing crews to begin on and never let them compete head to head. The only other similar sized class I know of which is steady enough is the Osprey and that is not really a good family boat by current standards.
Hi Mark, You will probably find most sailing clubs are willing to either over look the use of trapeze with kids or will make up a handicap for the boat.
