Anyone have any experience of sailing in Mylor/Falmouth area. We are going first two weeks of August and am taking the boat for its first trip (and mine ) in the sea!

Hi. Sorry not to have come back to you sooner. Have only just checked the forum. Julian Davey can be contacted on 01326 270269 or lanzeague@aol.com. He is fairly relaxed about replying to correspondence so if you don't hear from him, you may need to chase. Incidentally, if you are going to race in Dinghy week, you need to factor in time to sail over or drive round to Mylor to fill in the safety forms etc., (crew too,) before they will let you race.

Well, that might make thee Stratii for Falmouth Dinghy Week. Any more takers?

hi Guys, I'm thinking of taking my statos CB125 for the second week in August. Got to start E-mailing caravan parks for accomodation. I guess the sailing club will be fully booked. Nick do you have contact details for julian Davy. Getin a caravan on the east side and lauching of the beach sounds less stressful than a busy club for a family with 4 kids. thank for any advice

Thanks for the help. I have already contacted RSC as we are staying in Mylor. They were very helpful and we are planning to leave the boat there. - just need to work out how to fit all the gear in the car now!

They apparantly host dingy week (2nd week in August) so there should be plently of people about.

Look forward to perhaps seeing you around Neil.

Yes, it is a GREAT place to sail, but it is generally so sheltered that it doesn't feel like sea sailing unless you venture out beyond Pendennis Point of the end of Falmouth.

I will be down for the first two weeks in August too and hope to do Falmouth Week, which is the second week. They do two short races a day, starting at 1100 hrs and you are usually ashore by 1400 hrs so the family don't get too bored. Why don't you come and give me some competition? It blew F5-6 three days last year! Details are on www.falmouthweek.org.

Where you keep/launch your boat rather depends where you are staying. If you are on the Roseland (i.e. the East side of Carrick Roads, then I suggest you do as I do. I will be putting my Stratos Keel on a mooring in Pasco'e Boatyard in St. Just in Roseland - the one refered to in the post above. But if you have a C/B version you can launch off the beach and keep it ashore. The owner, Julian Davey will make a small charge. I agree that St. Mawes, nice though it is, gets very busy and you will struggle to find a place to keep it there.

If you are in the Feock (North shore) area, there is a public slipway by a sailing club there. I'm not sure about storage etc.

If you are in the Mylor area (West shore) I suggest you sail from Restronguet Sailing Club, which is the dinghy base for Falmouth Week anyway, and keeping your boat there would be part of the deal. I suggest you contact the club and ask. They are incredibly helpful.

Let me know if you have any other queries. I hope to see you there! Nick (#1003)

Fantastic place to sail....been there a couple of times and stayed over the water from Falmouth ..small boatyard in St Just couple of miles from St Mawes. Have'nt been for a few years but easy access to Falmouth and either way up the estuary. We sailed all over (including visit to the National maritime Museum)....I think St Mawes Sailing Club also do a seasonal membership but parking can be bit tricky during the season. I am sure there will be a local owner who may add considerably more to this but we really enjoyed it..

It is pretty safe there (we did it an Enterprise so you will be fine in the Stratos) subject to normal planning etc

Neil
