Just got back from racing. This is the first time we've logged the course using gps. Believe it or not - on nokia mobile phone.

For those of you interested in using your gps enabled phone as a 'black box', I put mine in a ziplock plastic bag in the console.

There's a simple upload option to send the logged data to google earth or onto nokia's sports tracker service (which is free!).

Take a look here....

Surprisingly accurate and although we didnt get a good long reach, it shows a fairly respectable 15kn. Two capsizes lowered our average speed though.

Only drawback is battery - I think we'd be running out of power after 2hrs.

Bramble met reports average 17 knots of breeze (25 knts max gust), but it was gusty. I know we've been much quicker than that on longer reaches with steadier wind. As you can see from the route, it was a pretty short course today.

Had a look at the website.....looks really good, thanks for this..

Out of interest how much wind did you have as 15 knts is pretty good for the old bus (its been pretty flat in suffolk this w/e) ?

regards

Neil
