Having just bought a Stratos and working out the finer points of rigging I notice from photos that the gennaker is being flown some distance from the pole end, is this correct? and if so what is the optimum distance?

Well, I don't know about clever, but .....

Bobble is a must, top and bottom, so that the knots don't get stuck in either the end of your genniker pole, or the halyard-block. You can easily adjust the distances this way, by shifting the knot a few inches either way, to see how it performs. One thing to make note of - is that the kite will set better and get more air if the pole is fully extended, so check the length of the tack line and the positioning of the knots/bobbles allows this.

The key thing is to have [about] one/two inches of halyard between the stopper and the head of the sail and at least double that at the tack - specifically so that if the sail twists when you launch it, these sections act like swivels and allow the sail to unroll smoothly, rather than get caught in an 'hourglass'.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
Or is everyone hibernating?
